Message from Ms. Rached

Such an exciting week! On top of our regularly programming, this week we had the Book Market, we celebrated Valentine’s Day and the 100th Day of School, and our fifth grade classes had field trips to the Brooklyn Museum of Art! Wow!

Holi Festival Planning

We are looking forward to our Holi celebration on March 8. We are planing on having an in-class lesson around the meaning and significance of Holi, and an outdoor celebration in the school yard. We’d love to hear feedback and perspectives from families in our community who celebrate Holi as we plan our programming. We’ll be having a Holi planning meeting on Tuesday, 2/28, at 10AM. The meeting and Zoom link will be on the school calendar.

Spring AUCTION - ONLY 2 WEEKS LEFT!

Going once, going twice…we’re almost out of time and we need your help for the Spring Auction on Sunday, March 12! We still need your donations of items or services to put up for bidding. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive, just something fun, something useful, something intriguing - if people would bid on it, we want it. And if you can help out with auction planning with your planning expertise, even better! You can sign up to help and join the Auction Planning committee and donate items or services through the same link!

Racoons on Sale!

No, not everyone’s favorite procyonid. But if you’re not sporting PS154 raccoon gear on these stylish Brooklyn streets, we’ve got you covered. Shop the mid-winter sale on long sleeve Ts and crew neck sweatshirts! Starting at $15, it’s a great time to show your support for PS154.

Basic Needs Survey

This is a stressful time for all. However, some families may be experiencing problems that are making things more difficult than most. We created this form as a way for you to let us know how you are doing outside the academic needs of your students. It's completely optional, but we do hope to hear from you if you need us. Please complete your contact information, and then answer the questions so we can work out the best way to provide support. This information will be kept private unless you give me permission to share it with others who can help you. If you have questions, or would rather just email me, you can reach me at tgordon@ps154.org

Book Market Donations

We are always accepting donations to our book Market! Book donations can be left on the stage in the MMR in clearly marked boxes or bags. Thank you!

Message from Ms. Rached

Happy Black History Month! Our classroom libraries give students the opportunity to engage with a broad range of diverse perspectives throughout the year. However, we always look forward to Black History Month as a time to acknowledge and celebrate the people and places that have uniquely impacted the American experience. Our Book of the Month for February is Who Are Your People by Bakari Sellers.

February 3 News

A note from Ms. Rached

Our students are now enjoying both music (K-5) and chess (K-3) classes added to their weekly schedules. What a joy to walk down our hallways and hear music coming from classrooms! Knowing that our students are having these essential PS154 experiences is so wonderful, and we are so grateful for the PTA’s support in funding and organizing this programming.

Lion-Dance Assemblies

We were delighted to welcome the Chinatown Community Young Lions to the school on Friday for a Lunar New Year Lion Dance. While we had to do a quick logistical pivot to indoor assemblies due to the weather, our students thoroughly enjoyed the assemblies.

Read-a-thon

OMG, everyone! Our accounting raccoons are still tabulating the final numbers, but it’s clear that our Read-A-Thon was a resounding success! Thank you to everyone for participating and for helping us reach (and exceed!) our 18.000 goal! Stay tuned for the announcement of the final numbers and our grade-level raffle winners!

Bookmark Contest

We received so many amazing entries for our bookmark contest, which were shared via Remind earlier in the week. Bookmark contest winners will be announced in the coming weeks.
