December 16 News

Thank you!!!

Thank you all for making Winter Fair a huge success! It was wonderful seeing all the kiddos enjoying themselves making crafts, enjoying hot chocolate and popcorn, or just running around the schoolyard like merry little maniacs. And through the sales of crafts, food, and apparel we were able to raise almost $7,000 for the school!

But of course this would have been possible without everyone who volunteered their time, either on the day of the event or leading up to making delicious treats and preparing crafts and games.

Thank you to all our volunteers:

School Principal: Leila Rached

Chair of Fundraising Events: Bill Podurgiel

Fundraising Chairs: Sarah Gartenberg and Renanit Levy

Chair of Food: Tara Cafaro

Chair of Crafts: Sabrina Baronberg

Chair of Decorations: Dani Kim

President of Popcorn: Frances Sampson

Hot Chocolate Czar: Danielle Mendez

Chair of Cash: Cara Zwerling

School Store Chief: Stefanie Schiada

Beanbag Boss: Rob Townend

Raccoon Wrangler: Damien Correll

And thanks to everyone who pitched in:

Tanica Gordon, Sapna Advani, Matilda Curley, Daniel Davidson, Meibis Lopez, Oscar Milledge, Kerry Bray, Shannon Smith, Hong Wu, Madelon Gauthier, Maya Swedowsky, Becky Amsel, Claudia Freeman, Matilda Curley, Kaiya Baronberg, Nicole Andersen, Devjani Das, Susan Machover, Shari Levi, Emma Vazquez, Lucas Vazquez, Brittany Stenerson, Geina Keller, Ed Huttel, Chino Okonkwo, Alex Costas, Tana Wojczuk, Amy May, Sabrina Phillips, Elyse Lightman Samuel 1s, Aya Tariq, Esther Tantao, Frank Laterra, Judd Gartenberg

Special thanks to the generous donations from Windsor Farms Market and Cutest Cookies in Staten Island.

To all attended—Thank you and Happy Holidays!

This book is a celebration of youth activism and empowers children to stand up for what they believe in. November 25 News

A NOTE FROM MS. RACHED

Dear Families,

How lucky are we to get an opportunity to celebrate all that we are thankful for? There is so much that I am grateful for - including getting to spend every day with your delightful, inquisitive, and kind children, and getting to work with such dedicated staff and supportive families. This month, our school-wide book of the month is “Harvest Days,” a newly-published picture book by Kate DePalma which describes harvest festivals celebrated by different cultures around the globe, from Chuseok in Korea to Dozynki in Poland. Through this book, students learned that harvest festivals from all cultures include special food, traditions, and celebrating with family and loved ones. Across PS 154 this week, students have been making turkeys (out of their hands, tissue paper, and pineapples) as well as reflecting on what they are grateful for. From reading their work, I am so inspired by how caring and thoughtful they are.

From all of us at PS 154, we wish you a happy Thanksgiving!

In gratitude,

Leila
