BOO BASH 2020

Saturday October 24

TIPS FOR A MEMORABLE HALLOWEEN!

Our kids have lost a lot in 2020 - time with friends, classmates, and teachers to name just a few. Now they are living in a world where Zoom monsters have taken over! But they don’t need to give up everything they love about their beloved Halloween! The pandemic has stirred up some creative spirit in our Boo Bash team, whose goal is to create some spooky and happy memories of this time! Here’s our guide to how to get involved, keep it fun and make it safe!

TIP 1 - PLAN YOUR PARTY!

ONLY THREE DAYS LEFT TO ORDER BOO BASH IN A BAG (MONDAY OCTOBER 19). It’s the one-stop-shop for a pop-up ghoul-fest, complete with everything you will need whether it’s a virtual house party or fun and games with your family or pod at home.
Visit ps154.org/shop/boo-bash-in-a-bag
(
Please email dwattenbarger@ps154.org by Sunday if you would like a boo bash bag, but need help financially.)

PICK UP ALL ORDERS FROM OUTSIDE PS 154 ON THURS OCT 22 & FRI OCT 23 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM / 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM OR SAT OCT 24 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM

TIP 2 - DRESS THE PART

If you’ve got it, haunt it! Among this year’s hottest items: Boo Bash 2020 Limited Edition T-shirt (which is beginning to sell out in certain sizes); the new must-wear eco-friendly School Spirit Face Mask, featuring our own mascot with double-layers and designed to fit snugly around the ears. Finally for those chilly evenings hanging outside, there’s the Full Zip Script Hoody. Capture the memory with the Boo Bash Photo Session.

By purchasing Boo Bash gear and experiences, you help connect and protect our kids! ps154.org/shop.

TIP 3 - VOLUNTEER FOR HANDING OUT MERCHANDISE, COSTUME PARADE OR PHOTO SESSION

YOUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU! We all know it takes a village. We really need the help of our community to make these Boo Bash events feel special for our kids and restore a sense of normality. We need volunteers to help give out merchandise on Thursday October 22, Friday 22 and Saturday 23. On Saturday October 24, we especially need your help with leading the Boo Bash Costume Parade, starting from outside the school at 11am and walking around the neighborhood to Prospect Park to ensure that social distancing is maintained. Or if you have a creative streak, can you please spare a couple of hours of your time to decorate the PS 154 garden in the run up to the day or supervise the Boo Bash Photo Sessions to ensure social distancing. To misquote JFK, “Ask not what your school community can do for you, but what can you do for your school community!”

TIP 4 - JOIN THE COSTUME PARADE: SATURDAY OCTOBER 24, 11:0OAM

We want to provide the PS 154 community with an opportunity to dress up, meet up, and have a safe time outside. What better way to do that than in our first ever socially distanced Boo Bash Costume Parade!

EVERYONE MUST WEAR MASKS - so be creative with those costumes!

EVENT: PS 154 BOO BASH COSTUME PARADE

LOCATION: Start at the front entrance of PS154 and continue through Windsor Terrace to Prospect Park

DATE: SATURDAY OCTOBER 24

TIME: 11:00AM

PRICE: FREE

While we know that this isn’t exactly how we pictured Boo Bash at this time last year, we’re hopeful that families will take part in ways that they are comfortable.

  • Please note that the building will not be accessible and families cannot use the playground during the Boo Bash Costume Parade or Boo Bash Photo Sessions.

  • Please sign up in advance below so that we know how many people are arriving.

COMMUNITY CORNER

Thank you to PS 154 Occupational Therapist, Jessica Hartman, for sharing some quick resources to support your child with remote learning, particularly if they have sensory issues. She says “It can be really hard to maintain focus during Zoom lessons. I like to recommend sensory breaks and sensory supports during lessons.” Below are some remote learning sensory supports that she uses with her son. If you would like more information please email jhartman@ps154.org.
