A Note from Principal Fitzgerald

Dear P.S. 154 Families,

Thank you so much for participating in our first round of parent teacher conferences! The goal of conferences is to share highlights from your child’s learning journey this year so far. We know that our families are our most important partners in supporting student learning and conferences are an important time for us to touch base and share how you can support your child at home. Additional feedback will be shared with families through progress reports on November 21st.

We are very excited to see many of you at our upcoming family mornings. Please see the schedule below for the date your child’s grade is hosting. In honor of Native American Heritage Month, we will be making corn husk dolls as our family engagement activity. Please see this video, which you will watch in the classroom with your child, for more information about corn husk dolls.

Our school-wide ofrenda was displayed in front of the school on Friday! Students should have picked up their beautiful sugar skulls to take home. Any sugar skulls not picked up on Friday can be found in the main office.

Annual PS 154 Community Cares Fund Drive

Each year, the PTA raises funds for families within our PS 154 community who are struggling financially. Our aim is to help make the holiday season a little brighter and easier for our neighbors and friends. We are asking for families with a little extra to share to contribute to the PS 154 Community Cares Fund Drive.

Every donation will go directly to families, allowing them to purchase both winter essentials and holiday gifts for their kids. Your contribution isn’t just a gift; it’s a message that they are not alone and that their community stands with them.

Let’s show the strength of our PS 154 family by lifting each other up. The deadline to contribute is Monday Nov 25th 2024.  Thank you in advance for opening your hearts and your wallets. Together, we can spread warmth, hope, and the true spirit of giving this holiday season.

DONATE TO COMMUNITY CARES DRIVE

While online donations are strongly preferred, we also welcome donations of cash or checks, which can be dropped off with Kelly Pearn in the main office on weekdays before 2 p.m. For checks, please make them payable to The PTA of PS 154, with “Community Cares” noted in the memo.

If you are a PS 154 family experiencing difficulties with basic needs, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to Tanica. We are here to support each other, and you are not alone. This season, let’s come together to make sure every family in our community feels the warmth, care, and kindness that defines PS 154. Thank you for your generosity!

Music and Enrichment Class Parent Shares

Parents! Come join us in the classroom for an opportunity to see what your child has been doing in their PTA-sponsored music and media arts classes this semester. The schedule for all classes is below:

PTA Annual Fund - we need your support!

We’re happy to report that the PTA Annual Fund raised over $20,563 in September and October! Thank you so much for your support - that is quite an impressive number, but we have a long way to go to hit our PTA Dues Annual Fund goal of $125,000.

Your PTA dues are necessary for PS 154 to operate in-school curriculum like Music, Media Arts, Chess, Author Visits, etc. - without it, the school only receives funding for core subjects.

This year, the PTA aims to raise ~$323,500 to fund this year’s enrichments and activities. We do this through fun seasonal events like 👻Boo Bash 🎃 - but these events only provide about 50% of our revenue - the other 50% is from the PTA annual fund, supported by your PTA dues.

We need a minimum of $400 per student this year in PTA dues.

That’s $40/month during the school year - some families can afford more than that, and some families can afford less or none at all; please donate what you can: ps154.org/donate. There are many ways to pay dues or get other family members to donate; one time, recurring, and stock donations - give how you can, and encourage your family members to donate to you child’s education too!

Please help spread the word about how important it is to donate to the PTA, attend PTA events, and get involved in the operation of the PTA!
