Hey Boo!

Boo Bash is TOMORROW, Spooky Saturday, October 22, 2022, 3pm-7pm

Are you getting worried about warding off the evil eye and other paranormal pitfalls this season? You could trust the ancient Romans, engage in despuere malum, and spit three times. OR you could earn good energies by volunteering to help us feed the hordes at the Boo Bash! We welcome last-minute signups, whatever your motivation!

There’s still time to help us make this event a monster success:

SWEETEN THE DEAL: Lend a helping hand by dropping off homemade or store-bought cupcakes, candy, and cookies (oh, my!) for our Boo Bash bake sale on Saturday, 10/22 from 8:30am-3pm.

Remember: The funds from Boo Bash help ensure that your little ghouls and goblins continue to benefit from all the amazing PTA-sponsored offerings at 154.

PS 154 BOOK MARKET

We are excited to announce a new project! Building off the success off our ‘new-to-you” book exchanges over the last couple of years, the PS154 Book market will be permanently housed in the MMR, ad will be stocked with gently-used books donated by families. Students will take class trips to the Book Market, and will be able to choose a book to keep. We need your help!

Help stock our shelves! Donate books in good condition by bringing them to the MMR stage between 8:00 and 8:30 on Monday mornings. Boxes/bags of books should be clearly labeled “Book Market”.

Help organize books! Email Sabrina Baronberg to sign up to volunteer to sort label and shelve books.

Equity Team

Our Equity team meets monthly to reflect on and plan actions we can take towards take action toward creating a more equitable local and global community. The work we do aligns with the work that that the District 15 Equity Congress and Youth Equity Congress are engaged in. Out next meeting is Tuesday, October 18, at 6PM. Superintendent Alvarez and the District 15 Team invite you to join us at our next virtual Town Hall on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 6:30 pm. PICTURE DAY OCTOBER 12th

Picture day is next week! Get ready to dress your little ones up, untangle their hair and get ready for Picture Day. This year photos will be taken inside the school building so there’s no need to be concerned if there’s foul or cold weather.

In the event that your child misses picture day or forgets to smile a make up day will be held on November 17th.

We also need a few volunteers to help with managing the students during the photo sessions so please consider volunteering here.

Community Corner

On Monday, October 10 (on Indigenous Peoples’ Day) Clean Rite will be offering FREE laundry + meals from 11-3 PM at 314 McDonald Ave in Brooklyn.

There will be a DJ, children’s entertainment, and raffle giveaways every 20 minutes. To pre-register and be entered into the raffle, families can fill out their name and email using this form.

Curriculum Mornings

This week, we were delighted to welcome kindergarten and 2nd grade families into the building, and next week, we will open our doors to families in first, third, fourth, and fifth grades (click on the events page or calendar for the exact dates). Due to space concerns, each child can have one caregiver attend the event with them. All adult visitors must show ID and proof of Covid vaccination when they sign-in.

Please see the Curriculum Mornings Info Sheet, and reach out to Leila with any questions.

Classroom teachers will communicate to families whether you are in Group 1 or Group 2, and teachers will share their curriculum slides with families, too.

Calling all volunteers!

If you’d like to be involved more in the goings-on at PS 154 but don’t want the full time commitment of being on the PTA, we’ve got you covered! Join our volunteer database and tell us what you love to do and how your ‘special skills’ could help make this year great for our kids! Love gardening? painting? writing? magic tricks? amazing at setting up A/V equipment? best chef ever? If you have a skill, we can leverage it!

Let us know what you can do by filling out our volunteer database form, and we’ll be in touch when we need you throughout the year to see if you’re available to pitch in!

Movie Night Tonight!

Come enjoy a movie under the stars in our schoolyard. We will be showing Minions: The Rise of Gru. The schoolyard will open at 6:30 for open play, and the movie will begin at 7. This event is free! Snacks and kid-friendly drinks will be available for sale. If it’s chilly, bring a blanket or sleeping bag! Fun, community-building events like this are made possible though the efforts of parent volunteers. Please consider signing up!

*Please note: this is not a drop-off event. All children must be supervised by an adult.

BOO BASH 2022

Get ready all you ghouls and ghosts, PS 154’s Halloween tradition is back for another year of monsters, madness, and mayhem. Please mark your calendars for October 22nd for the sheer terror of the Boo Bash!

This outdoors event will include school favorites like games, crafts, yummy treats, cotton candy, family photo sessions, a dance party, and more! Get your Halloween costumes or BOO BASH 2022 T-shirt ready for a fun-filled event to remember!
